“P’s” of prayer

I have wanted to share this idea for a while and even captured this photo back in July when I saw this beat-up white delivery truck with only one word on the entire vehicle, “Perfected.” It was this morning, when my AM readings included Psalm 138 and a devotion by Pastor Chuck Smith on prayer, I felt motivated to post it today.

Have you ever had someone come to mind to pray for, or even run into someone and thought, “I should say a prayer for him or her,” but didn’t know quite what to pray? Can be slightly frustrating? I mean, it’s not bad to just say, “God, please bless so-and-so,” but maybe there could be more? At some point in this last year, I had the “P’s of Prayer” come together for me (I think God was graciously meeting me with some divine inspiration), and they have helped me to pray for others when I don’t have anything specific in mind for them. The last “P,” “Perfection,” has a Scripture tied to it too.

It goes something like this…(and most often I say it for an individual man or woman.)

Heavenly Father,

would you give XXXXXXX Your PERSPECTIVE, that is, a Scriptural truth or truths

they are needing to know right now, or today, or for this week…;

may they go forth in Your POWER and not their own, yes, strengthen them;

would you PROVIDE and PROTECT them physically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, and/or materially;

and finally Lord, I pray for Your PERFECTION, that is, “would you perfect that which concerns them.” (Psalm 138:8—NKJV)

In Jesus Name, Amen.

December 2015–Week 3

1“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, ‘where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.’”  Matthew 2:1, 2

Statement of Faith:
4“…he (Herod the king) inquired of them (all the chief priests and scribes of the people) where the Christ was to be born. 5 So they said to him, ‘in Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 6 But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.’” Matthew 2:4- 6

9 “…the star which they had seen in the East went before them (the wise men), till it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy…11 and fell down and worshipped Him.”  Matthew 2:9-11

December 2015–Week 2

“‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us.’”   Matthew 1:23

Statement of Faith:
20 “… behold an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream saying, ‘Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 24 Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife…”  Matthew 1:20, 24

Note: (Faith always requires a step, and then another…)

46And Mary said,My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my savior.’”
Luke 1:46, 47

Two years ago, I helped to draft an advent of sorts for my church. Since then, I have used the “NCL Christmas Nativity” as a way to focus on the birth of Christ and prepare my heart to truly enjoy and celebrate this holy and joyous time.

The Scriptures revolving around the Son of God coming to earth become almost new when seen through the lens of God’s names, statements of faith, and praises.

“…come and behold Him…”

Blessings, and here’s to a Merry Christmas indeed!

December 2015—Week 1

31“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son,
and shall call His name JESUS.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest;
and the Lord God will give Him the
throne of His father David.” Luke 1:31, 32

 Statement of Faith:
“For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37

“For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is His name.” Luke 1:49

#35 When I seem stuck

studio-sink full of dishes

Sometimes, “doing the next thing” is as simple (or laborious) as tackling a sink full of dishes (hence the location of the signage) or as profound as taking a bold step of faith. Both need ongoing encouragement (and prayer)!

(I bought these lovely handcrafted signs through Hope and Stay. Check out her creations on Etsy. There are so many to choose from!!)

P.S. It’s kind of hard to see in the photo, but I stuck an antique “K” typewriter key inside the “O” in “GO!” Kind of personalizes the call to action, don’t ya think?
