38 Roots and wings and then SOAR!

IMG_20151228_072602132Stockings are an abundantly fun occurrence for our family at Christmas–filled to the brim with cool stuff. My stepdad enjoys finding the perfectly suited magazine for each of us and this year was no exception.  I ended up with Small Room Decorating.

When I finally opened it up, I couldn’t have been more pleased (and encouraged) with the title of the Editor’s letter, “make tiny spaces soar.” What a great inspiration to take into the New Year!

(Photo: Also featured and right in line with Bird’s-eye View by Karin–a hummingbird cookie cutter from my mom and a small cutting board and knife from one of my sisters.)

I guess this post fits two of my three main blog categories– “HOME:studio living” and “DEVOTION: Jesus speaking.”

The last couple of years I’ve really anticipated and then camped out on the personal Psalm reading I end up with on December 31 and January 1, as I always align the calendar date with the Psalm number (so I don’t loose track). I guess this reading is significant because (a.) I have it two days in a row and usually repetition with the Lord carries some weight and (b.) it’s the Psalm that ends a year and begins another. And sometimes, my personal Psalm reading aligns with my 1-year Bible reading, which happened this year, and as of 12/31/15 and 1/1/16, I have…(drumroll please…) Psalm 1.

“I will delight in the law of the LORD, I will meditate day and night,
then like a tree firmly planted I’ll be, grounded in the Word.
Blessed is the one, who follows the way of the Lord, blessed is the one.”
(Worship song version)

Sally Lloyd-Jones says, “home is the place you set out from.”  So in 2016, I believe the Lord wants to make sure the Bible (His very voice!!) is my home base, and that it will be from this rooted and grounded place, where He would then love to see me soar into the wild blue yonder……….

Now doesn’t that seem like a good and faith-filled flight plan?

PSALM 1:1-6

Caught up in CHRISTmas…

hummingbird ornament…that’s how I pray it will be.

Two years ago, I helped to draft an advent of sorts for my church. Since then, I have used the “NCL Christmas Nativity” as a way to focus on the birth of Christ and prepare my heart to truly enjoy and celebrate this holy and joyous time.

The Scriptures revolving around the Son of God coming to earth become almost new when seen through the lens of God’s names, statements of faith, and praises.

“…come and behold Him…”

Blessings, and here’s to a Merry Christmas indeed!

December 2015—Week 1

31“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son,
and shall call His name JESUS.
32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest;
and the Lord God will give Him the
throne of His father David.” Luke 1:31, 32

 Statement of Faith:
“For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37

“For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
and holy is His name.” Luke 1:49

Joy Bringers

During the summer I went to Sherman Garden’s with my friend and while perusing the gift shop I came across the book, Garden Blessings. I randomly opened it to this jubilant poem entitled “Lilies”,

 “After the storm–
yellow lilies.
There you stand
holding a huge bouquet.
Mustard streaked petals
reaching back
wings flung wide.
Trumpeting courage
blowing jazzy joy.”

This ode of triumph reminded me of my favorite little “Joy Bringers”–hummingbirds! The nickname was inspired by an email I received from a friend who was sick at home. She wrote, “BTW, while I’ve been home sick God has given me the joy of watching hummingbirds every single day! A little family has definitely moved in as there are more than one outside our sitting room window.”

“Joy Bringers” indeed. And because I’m always up for inserting a Scriptural word of encouragement, how about this one, “…do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”  Nehemiah 8:10

Another post about my visit to Sherman Garden’s: Garden of treasures

A garden of treasures

Today I had the opportunity of introducing my friend to Sherman Garden’s. After she left, I visited the gift shop and happened upon this book.

Something familiar about this title…
“…when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to The Rock  that is higher than I…” (Psalm 61:2)
Yep, that’s the best view, looking through God’s lens of Truth for a clear perspective.

(Just some other photos from my the visit.)

Okay…here goes…

 …the beginning of my vlog.

noun: vlog; plural noun: vlogs
  1. a blog in which the postings are primarily in video form.
    (definition from Google Search)

Video footnotes:

1. “Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, You-Are-the-God-Who-Sees…”
Genesis 16:13 (NKJV). One of my favorite names of God illustrating His caring nature.

2. A reason for Bird’s Eye View by Karin.

3. Check out the The Lens.

Could this be more of a metaphor? My niece unknowingly titled this work in progress today when we were piecing it together. Sometimes I am confused by the puzzle that is my life and then I am also reminded that “God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…” (1 Corinthians 14:33) and that everything is being perfectly ordered and put into place by Him for me and the benefit of others. It’s nice when you can see things starting to take shape.

Onward and upward…

No U turn HummingbirdA few days after launching Bird’s Eye View by Karin (July 2013),   I went on vacation and stayed with a dear friend at her home. I couldn’t believe it when she gave me her address, “One Hummingbird.” When I arrived at my destination, this directional sign had a message for me as well.

I’m constantly amazed at the lengths God goes to in order to let me know that He sees me and loves me. Whether it’s giving me a deeper understanding of something I have read in His word, or in this instance, encouraging me in a step of faith (starting this blog was definitely going out on a limb), His communication is ever so sweet, strategic, and affirming.

So as it was written in the  WING Ministries year-end update entitled “Remember and Build”, Bird’s Eye View by Karin will continue into 2014 with the idea of being somewhat vulnerable, occasionally serious, and randomly amusing.

How comforting to know, that as I make my journey through this life, He is right there with me.

P.S. As much as He makes me feel like I’m His favorite, God’s eyes and ears and arms are wide open to all who would call on His name–Jesus.

#11 Divine juxtaposition

The Lord lined this shot up for me this morning, right outside my bedroom window. Well, that is to say, one of the windows over my bed. Anyway, two of my favorite things–hummingbirds and the moon. A definite early morning blessing. (Posted on Facebook- October 2, 2012)
